Game overview

Railborn is an open-world survival game in which your train is your base. You assemble it car by car and drive it across a landscape threaded with branching track, gathering resources, cultivating rare plants and managing the train's power, water and cargo flow along the way. It supports one to four players in co-op. Railborn is being developed and published by WashBear Studio for Windows PC, and no release date has been officially announced.

Guide coverage

The train as a moving base

The core loop is not settlement building but vehicle building. Rather than fortifying one location, you extend and rearrange the train itself, which doubles as shelter, workshop and transport. Because the world is laid out along rails that run through mountains, coastlines and ruins, where you can reach is governed by the track network and by whether your train is equipped to survive what is at the far end of it.

Systems management and co-op

Keeping the train running is its own layer of play: power generation, water supply and the routing of resources between cars all have to be balanced as the train grows. Farming rare plant species feeds back into that economy. The game is designed for one to four players, so these responsibilities can be divided across a crew rather than juggled alone.

Release status: still unannounced

WashBear Studio has not committed to a release date. Several aggregator sites display dates such as 2026 or 31 December 2026, but these are placeholder values used to represent 'sometime that year' rather than announcements — GameFAQs, by contrast, lists no announced release date. Treat any specific day as unconfirmed until the studio states one. Only a Windows PC version has been announced; there is no PlayStation, Xbox or Switch version on record.

Who is making it

WashBear Studio previously developed and published Parkasaurus, a dinosaur park construction and management sim that left Steam Early Access in August 2020 and came to Nintendo Switch in April 2022. That background in systems-driven building games is a reasonable guide to what the studio brings to Railborn's construction and logistics side.
