Gears of War: E-Day is the sixth mainline entry in the Gears of War franchise, developed by The Coalition with People Can Fly in Unreal Engine 5 and releasing October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X/S and PC (Steam and Windows Store), day one on Game Pass with Xbox Play Anywhere support. A prequel set 14 years before the original Gears of War, it follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago through the first 24 hours of Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde first erupts from beneath the surface of Sera.

A Survival-Toned Prequel

E-Day keeps the series' signature cover-based combat but adds modern movement and environmental interaction systems, with gameplay footage emphasising makeshift weapons and limited gear to reflect a military caught completely unprepared. Original voice actors John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro return as Marcus and Dom. The campaign supports solo play, split-screen co-op, and up to four players online.

Beta, Editions & Early Access

An Open Beta is scheduled for August 2026, with early access from August 6 for players who pre-order. Three editions are available — Standard ($69.99), Premium ($99.99), and a Collector's Edition — with Premium and Collector's owners getting up to five days of early access starting October 1, 2026. A Premium Edition Upgrade is available separately for Game Pass subscribers.
